Vision West, Inc. (VWI), Healthy Eyes Advantage, and Optometry Cares are pleased to again offer a national scholarship to promote InfantSEE.

The winner will be awarded $7,500 and the runner-up will receive $3,000.

The student must:

  • Be a third-year student member in good standing in the American Optometric Student Association and the American Optometric Association;
  • Be a student in good academic standing;
  • Submit a paper, written in English, not to exceed 1,000 words, as well as a video, not to exceed 3 minutes.

The paper needs to address EACH of the following topics

  1. What have you done as a student to prepare yourself to become an active participant as an InfantSEE® provider?
  2. How have your clinical experiences directly contributed to your development as a future participant in the InfantSEE® program and how you will translate these experiences into clinical practice as an InfantSEE® provider?
  3. What do you see as the major challenges to providing optometric care to infants and how would you overcome these challenges?
  4. How would you increase the impact of the InfantSEE® program in your local community? You may direct your strategy toward parents, optometrists, and/or other infant providers or referral agencies.

The video needs to address the following:

  1. Demonstrate or provide an example of how would you increase the impact of the InfantSEE® program in your local community. Using your answer to question four as a guide, create a presentation or marketing video that would be used to motivate your targeted group or groups to take action.

Video Requirements:

  • We recommend videos under three minutes. Supported YouTube file formats are: .MOV, .MPEG4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP, and WebM.
  • The video may contain an unlimited number of people, but only the participant submitting the video will be eligible for the scholarship. Each applicant choosing to do a video must upload their video to YouTube, and then email the link to foundation@aoa.org. Video must be original, and the participant must have the rights to any and all media used. Videos must not infringe on any third-party rights or copyrights. If Optometry Cares receives a notice of copyright infringements from the owner of the material, the video in violation will be removed.

Each school and college will choose one candidate from all applications received by their on-campus deadline. Each school must forward the individual’s name, essay & video to Optometry Cares® in St. Louis.  The winner will be announced in January 2019.
