Scholarship opportunity for DO students of Italian descent

The Morgagni Medical Society was founded in 1890 as an organization to foster the professional, intellectual and economic development of Italo-American physicians who were struggling to establish themselves in a less than congenial and welcoming environment for descendants of new immigrants to this country at the turn of the twentieth century. Today this tradition has evolved into a society of professional and cultural enrichment through social interaction amongst physicians, PhD's, dentists, chiropractors and podiatrists of Italian descent as well as Italophiles, with four dinner meetings and informative lectures at well-known New York City restaurants and social clubs throughout the year.

Eligibility: The Morgagni Medical Scholarship is only for incoming first year medical students starting in the fall of 2017. Students need to have an overall college GPA of at least 3.7, and be of Italian descent (at least 50% Italian).

Process: Students interested in receiving the Morgagni Medical Scholarship must submit an application online and the required supporting documents to the Columbus Citizens Foundation. A committee reviews and evaluates the applications and asks selected applicants to visit the Columbus Citizens Foundation for a mandatory interview.

Approximately one month after interviews, the committee decides which applicant will be awarded the scholarship. Applicants are notified by email of the committee’s decision.
