The purpose of the Welch Scholars Grant is to provide monetary support to help defer costs during a student’s osteopathic medical education. The recipients are chosen because of their outstanding academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, strong commitment toward osteopathic medicine, and financial need.

• Former grant recipients are not eligible to reapply for the same award for a period of three years. 
• Any osteopathic medical student who has successfully completed his/her first-year of studies, prior to the fall of 2017, and remains in good academic standing at an AOA accredited college of osteopathic medicine 
• The applicant’s character, personal merit and background are considered in the selections process
• Demonstrated financial need while completing his/her osteopathic medical education
• Outstanding academic achievement while enrolled in an osteopathic medical school
• Demonstrated commitment to the osteopathic medicine and the profession
• Participation in school/community activities outside of college requirements; may include participation in professionally related organizations/activities while in osteopathic medical school
