A scholarship opportunity for a Native American woman enrolled in an accredited US medical school.

National Medical Fellowships (NMF)is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the number of underrepresented minority physicians and other professionals in the healthcare workforce in order to improve access to quality healthcare in medically underserved communities.

Established by NMF Board member, this $2,500 scholarship honors a Native American woman medical student who demonstrates outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, and community service.

  • Documentation of loan history(CURRENT AND UNDERGRADUATE) from the National Student Loan Data System (www.nslds.ed.gov)
  • Two (2) personal statements:
  • Personal Statement 1: Discuss your personal and professional motivation for a medical career and goals over the next ten years; your commitment to service and improvement of healthcare; and your motivation for working to reduce health disparities. Emphasize significant persons and/or events that have influenced your decision. .
  • Personal Statement 2: Discuss experiences that prepared you to work for an underserved community; challenges you have overcome; and unique perspectives or skills you bring to practicing medicine in an underserved community. (500-1,000 words).

  • Two recommendation lettersincluding one from medical school dean and an additional recommendation letter should from one of the following: faculty member, volunteer supervisor or a community leader, who can attest to your commitment to the community (or a second letter from a dean).
