Work begins on first med school building

The steel framework of the new College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Northwest is going up quickly, according to project manager Lyle Hutchens, of Devco Engineering in Corvallis. The work is being done by crews from Howard S. Wright Constructors of Portland.

"It started about two weeks ago," Hutchens said. "It is the first classroom building and will be 54,000 square feet total over two stories."

Hutchens said the exterior walls will be masonry and glass.

"The architecture will have a collegiate-type feel to it," Hutchens said.

"The construction company has done several college projects, including buildings at Oregon State, so they have a good feel for this."

He said utilities are already into the site, and he expects the framing work to be completed by early June.
