Vision and health seminar to be held at WesternU
Pomona, Calif. - 08/23/2013 -- The community is invited to a free vision and health seminar from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Western University of Health Sciences, Health Education Center, Lecture Hall 1, 795 E. Second St., Pomona, CA 91766.
The seminar, presented by the Foundation Fighting Blindness and WesternU, will feature valuable information on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, stem cell research, dental health, diabetes, pharmacy, podiatric medicine and vision rehabilitation.
The educational event is meant to raise awareness about various retinal diseases and vision impairments, as well as new treatments and ongoing research. Other topics include how people with vision loss monitor their tooth care and foot care, innovations in diabetic disease management, and medication management.
WesternU doctors and specialists who will be speaking include: Bruno Azevedo, DDS, MS, assistant professor, College of Dental Medicine; Lawrence Harkless, DPM, dean, College of Podiatric Medicine; Rudolf Mireles, PharmD, pharmacist in charge, Pharmacy; Andrew Pumerantz, DO, executive director, Western Diabetes Institute; and Linda Pang, OD, chief of vision rehabilitation service, Eye Care Center.
Prominent guest speakers include: Michael Davis, MD, Retinal Institute; Henry Klassen, MD, PhD, UC Irvine associate professor and director, Stem Cell & Retinal Regeneration Program; Sumit Garg, MD, UC Irvine assistant professor of Ophthalmology - Cataract, External Disease/Corneal Surgery & Refractive Surgery; Nathan Rudometkin, MD, Pacific Eye Institute and Laser Center; and David Liao, MD, PhD, Retina-Vitreous Associates Medical Group.
