WesternU partner the Autism Channel wins Communitas Award

POMONA, Calif. - 02/15/2013 --

The Autism Channel, which has partnered with Western University of Health Sciences to raise awareness about autism issues, is one of about 30 organizations and corporations to receive a 2013 Communitas Award, an international effort to recognize the spirit of communitas – people helping people.

Communitas winners are recognized for specific programs involving volunteerism, philanthropy or ethical, sustainable business practices. Communitas winners unselfishly give of themselves and their resources, and are changing the way they do business to benefit their communities. Click here to visit the Communitas Awards website.

The Autism Channel received the award in the “Making a Difference” category. The Autism Channel’s mission is to help parents, caregivers, people on the spectrum and other members of the autism community find what works for them. The Autism Channel seeks to give its audience a wide range of choices so they can make an informed decision that is as unique as their individual situation. Western University of Health Sciences’ Faculty for Autism Collaboration and Education (FACE) produced a show, “Autism Intersection,” that is playing now on the Autism Channel. The show depicts WesternU faculty members interacting with children with autism and problem-solving in a multidisciplinary way.

FACE is committed to promoting integrated perspectives, activities and resources that serve to enhance the lives of individuals with ASD and their significant others to help optimize function and promote the highest possible quality of life. Click here to view the FACE website.

Communitas Awards is an outgrowth of the pro bono recognition program of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (www.amcpros.com), a several thousand-member group that honors creative achievement and fosters partnerships with charities and community organizations. As part of its mission, AMCP gives grants to community organizations and underwrites a large portion of Communitas expenses.
