Still time to get a flu shot
Pomona, Calif. - 01/14/2013 -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that Influenza continues to increase in the United States, reporting elevated levels in most states. California has not yet experienced such an outbreak, but is expected to follow suit.
"You should get the flu shot now because it takes about two weeks to be fully effective," said WesternU Pharmacy Director Rudolf Mireles, PharmD. "It's conducive to take the flu shot now before we become a state in the red zone, because it will eventually hit us."
The Pharmacy at Western University of Health Sciences, 795 E. Second Street, 1st Floor, Suite 1, Pomona, Calif., has about 150 flu vaccines available and can get more within two days, Mireles said.
"This is the right vaccine - Influenza A H3N2 - for the current outbreak," he said.
The Pharmacy is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are accepted, but flu shots are only administered until 4 p.m.
The flu shot is available at very affordable price and can be covered by insurance, Mireles said.
